“Feeling great now, finally,” said former Blue Jays pitcher Jordan Romano, who recently signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, discussing his recovery from surgery and the shock of being non-tendered by the Jays. He mentioned he will miss the Blue Jays’ fans. #BlueJays #Phillies
Romano also appeared on the *Blair and Barker* show on Sportsnet, where he shared his thoughts on being let go by the Blue Jays. He emphasized that he holds no hard feelings toward the organization or any of its players or coaches.
“In this game, you try not to take anything personally, right? That’s how I’m trying to approach it,” Romano said on Tuesday’s *Blair and Barker* show. “Throughout my time with the Blue Jays, honestly, they treated me fairly. I was surrounded by great teammates, and with the coaches and front office, there’s never been any animosity. It’s still the same after I was non-tendered.”
The 31-year-old pitcher had undergone arthroscopic surgery on his throwing elbow last July, where he could’ve earned $7.75 million, but the Blue Jays chose not to tender him, which led to his free agency. The Phillies quickly signed him to a one-year deal worth $8.5 million, with an additional $500,000 bonus if he pitches 60 innings.
Romano was drawn to the Phillies due to their talent and winning culture, as well as the city itself. “It was between the Phillies and a few other teams,” Romano explained to hosts Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker. “But with the Phillies, their success, the talent, and the city, everything made me choose them.”
How Romano will perform with the Phillies remains to be seen, but it’s clear there are no hard feelings on either side, and everyone is wishing him success in this new chapter of his career.
