With the Major League Baseball season fast approaching, Spring Training is ramping up. With about a month to go before Opening Day, players and coaches are shifting their focus toward the regular season. But even as baseball takes center stage, some football matters remain unresolved.

The NFL season wrapped up weeks ago, and your fantasy football league likely crowned its champion nearly two months back. However, when it comes to fantasy football punishments, there’s no expiration date.

For every champion, there’s also a last-place finisher—and in many leagues, that means a dreaded punishment. Some leagues require the loser to spend 24 hours in a pancake house, with time deducted for each pancake eaten. Others force the unfortunate player to stand on a busy street corner wearing an embarrassing outfit and a sign announcing their failure. Whether chosen by the league winner or decided by a group vote, these punishments have become a staple of fantasy football culture.

For Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt, who finished at the bottom of his team’s fantasy football league with a 4-10 record, the consequences played out during Saturday’s Spring Training game against the New York Yankees.

As his punishment, Bassitt had to serve as the Blue Jays’ bat boy for the game. To make matters worse, it also happened to be his 36th birthday. Adding to the humor, Bassitt wore a jersey displaying his fantasy football record instead of his usual number and looked understandably out of his element in his unexpected new role.
