With their offensive needs still pressing, it’s likely the Royals will make more moves before the 2025 trade deadline in July. On Wednesday, Preston Farr from Farm to Fountains predicted the team will trade for a star hitter by the deadline, with Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette mentioned as a possible target. “General Manager J.J. Picollo isn’t finished with the roster, and if the team competes as expected, he’ll have another chance to complete it this summer,” Farr wrote.

“A tough season for Toronto could push Bo Bichette, a potential rental, onto the trade market. Other trade options are uncertain, as they depend on the standings by midseason. Any move would likely target a third baseman or outfielder.”

The challenge in projecting a Bichette trade lies in the fact that he’s neither a third baseman nor an outfielder. While there’s been speculation about him moving to second base due to his subpar shortstop defense, he has never played third base in the majors or minors. However, Bichette is an excellent athlete, and the Royals could use their designated hitter spot to accommodate him. If Jonathan India proves he can handle left field, it could open the door for Bichette to play second base.

The key takeaway here is that the Royals are likely to pursue a trade for a player. Despite their efforts to strengthen their offense this winter, they’ve made little to no progress.
