Breaking News: Blue Jays Secure $70 Million Infielder as Pete Alonso Re-Signs with Mets

Blue Jays May Turn to $70 Million Infielder After Pete Alonso Stays with Mets

After missing out on major free agents like Juan Soto and Roki Sasaki, the Toronto Blue Jays have suffered another setback with Pete Alonso re-signing with the Mets. However, they still have an option to bolster their infield.

With Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s future in Toronto uncertain, signing Ty France could be a strategic move to strengthen the lineup and potentially convince Guerrero Jr. to stay. France struggled in 2024, hitting .234 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs between the Mariners and Reds, following a .250 season in 2023. However, he was an All-Star in 2022, posting a .274 average with 20 home runs and 83 RBIs, making him a potential bounce-back candidate.

Defensively, France isn’t the strongest, so the Blue Jays would need his bat to regain form. A potential platoon with Guerrero Jr. at first base and designated hitter could maximize his value.

France’s projected market value is a five-year, $70 million contract, averaging $14 million per year. However, after a down 2024 season, he may have to settle for a smaller deal. The Blue Jays could pursue him with a five-year, $47.5 million offer with performance-based incentives to help him regain his All-Star form.
