Report Connects Maple Leafs to Blues’ Captain in Blockbuster Deadline Trade

Recent reports indicate that the Toronto Maple Leafs have expressed interest in acquiring St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn. According to TSN’s hockey insider Darren Dreger, while Schenn possesses a full no-trade clause, there’s speculation about his potential availability due to the Blues’ underperformance this season. Dreger notes that any trade involving Schenn would require a substantial return.

This development comes nearly two years after the Maple Leafs acquired then-Blues captain Ryan O’Reilly in a significant trade.

The potential addition of Schenn could provide the Maple Leafs with a versatile forward known for his leadership and playoff experience, bolstering their roster as they aim for a deep postseason run.

However, Schenn’s full no-trade clause means he has control over his destination, and the Blues’ management would need to be convinced to part with their captain. As the trade deadline approaches, it remains to be seen whether the Maple Leafs can assemble an offer compelling enough to facilitate this “mammoth” deal.
