The Chicago Bears are preparing for significant roster changes this offseason, particularly on the offensive line, which faced major struggles throughout the season, largely due to injuries.

One key player battling health issues was offensive guard Teven Jenkins. Although Jenkins was the top performer among the Bears’ linemen when healthy (despite missing three full games and parts of others), the 26-year-old could be on his way out by March.

Jenkins has missed 12 full games over the past three years due to injuries and just completed the final season of his rookie contract. With three picks in the top 41 of the upcoming NFL draft and nearly $70 million in cap space, the Bears are looking to revamp the roster under new head coach Ben Johnson.

While Chicago may spend big on the offensive line, the fact they haven’t yet re-signed Jenkins suggests they could seek a cheaper replacement, possibly targeting a rookie in the early second round.

Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron recently suggested the 49ers as a potential landing spot for Jenkins, noting the growing likelihood that he will leave Chicago. Cameron highlighted Jenkins’ impressive 75.8 pass-blocking grade in 2024, marking a career high despite battling nagging injuries.

Jenkins is expected to command a significant contract in free agency, with PFF predicting a three-year, $40 million deal with $24 million guaranteed. Though Jenkins has been a strong performer when healthy, his injury history has raised concerns.

With Jenkins’ future uncertain, the Bears could turn to PFF’s No. 2-ranked free agent, Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith, as a potential target. Smith, who earned Pro Bowl honors in 2024, could be a key addition to strengthen the interior line. Pairing Smith with a second-round rookie guard and center could help Chicago completely reshape its offensive line. Meanwhile, young tackles Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones are expected to return as starters next season.
