WASHINGTON — Charlie Lindgren was forced to leave Friday’s game against the Montreal Canadiens early in the second period after taking a hit to the head.
While defending against a Montreal power play, Brandon Duhaime pushed Nick Suzuki into Lindgren, causing Suzuki to collide with the goalie shoulder and elbow first. The impact sent Lindgren hard to the ice.
The 31-year-old goaltender appeared shaken but stayed in the crease until a media timeout, after which Logan Thompson replaced him.
The team confirmed that Lindgren will not return, as he is dealing with an upper-body injury.
It’s a tough break for the former Canadiens player, who had stopped all six shots he faced, including two key saves in the first period to maintain a 1-0 lead.
