The Toronto Blue Jays could be looking to trade star shortstop Bo Bichette this season. With Bichette entering the final year of his contract, Toronto has reportedly shown no interest in extending him. Zachary Rymer of *Bleacher Report* recently linked the Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, and Milwaukee Brewers as potential trade destinations.
“While the Blue Jays at least made an effort with Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bichette has said he hasn’t been approached about an extension,” Rymer noted. “That might not bother him, as Bob Nightengale of *USA Today* reported in January that Bichette has ‘no real interest’ in staying in Toronto long-term. His trade value will largely depend on how well he rebounds from a disappointing 2024 season. He’ll need to stay healthy and return to the form he displayed from 2021 to 2023 when he was a .300 hitter with 20-homer power. While his long-term future at shortstop is uncertain beyond 2025, teams will likely view him as a viable option for the remainder of the season.”
If Bichette can regain his previous form, he will be a highly sought-after trade asset. His talent is unquestionable, and if the Blue Jays fall out of contention before the deadline, he will almost certainly be on the trade market. The Brewers could look to replace Willy Adames with a high-impact player, strengthening their position in the NL Central. Meanwhile, the Braves and Tigers both have underperforming shortstops, and acquiring Bichette would allow them to move on from their struggling players. However, this scenario largely depends on Bichette proving he can return to his peak performance.
