Maple Leafs’ Frustration Boils Over as Winger Confronts NHL Official

Steven Lorentz Voices Frustration as Maple Leafs’ Scoring Woes Continue

The Toronto Maple Leafs dropped their third straight game on Wednesday, losing ground in the Atlantic Division as the Florida Panthers overtook them for first place.

Steven Lorentz, feeling the pressure of the team’s struggles, openly displayed his frustration with an NHL official. Following an icing call he disagreed with, Lorentz shouted an expletive at the referee, as captured by TicTacTOmar on X: “Wake the f–k up!”

While Lorentz isn’t a key offensive contributor—tallying just 11 points in 51 games—his physical presence has been notable, leading the Leafs with 132 hits this season. However, Toronto’s fourth line has been largely ineffective during the losing streak, failing to provide the needed energy.

With the Leafs searching for a spark, the coaching staff may need to shake up the lineup again. A previous attempt to move Lorentz to the top line with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews was short-lived, but another adjustment—perhaps shifting him back to the third line—could be worth exploring.

Toronto has a few days off before facing the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, a game that could serve as a much-needed reset for the struggling squad.
