Reggie McKenzie, a former University of Tennessee football star, is set to return to his home state to join the Tennessee Titans’ front office, a source confirmed to The Tennessean on Monday. The move has yet to be officially announced, so the source requested anonymity.

McKenzie will assume a senior scouting role, bringing decades of NFL experience to a revamped Titans organization. Most recently, he served as a senior personnel executive for the Miami Dolphins from 2019 to 2024. Before that, McKenzie was a key figure in the Green Bay Packers’ front office from 1994 to 2011 and held the general manager position for the Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2018.

Now, McKenzie will work alongside head coach Brian Callahan and newly-hired general manager Mike Borgonzi as they look to rebuild the Titans, who hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

A Tennessee Legend

McKenzie, a Knoxville native, boasts deep ties to Tennessee football. As a linebacker for the Vols from 1981 to 1984, he earned a reputation as one of the program’s greats and was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.

Drafted in the 10th round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Raiders, McKenzie played seven seasons in the league with three teams. Following his playing career, he returned to the University of Tennessee as an assistant coach under Phillip Fulmer in 1993.

McKenzie’s Tennessee roots run deep. A graduate of Austin-East High in Knoxville, where he was valedictorian, McKenzie went on to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Tennessee. His twin brother, Raleigh, also played for the Vols and enjoyed a 16-year NFL career. Meanwhile, Reggie’s son, Kahlil, followed in his footsteps as a Vols linebacker and became a sixth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2018.
