The Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed reliever Jeff Hoffman to a three-year, $33 million contract.

Hoffman, 32, appeared in 68 games for the Philadelphia Phillies last season, posting a 2.17 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts over 66.1 innings. He also earned 10 saves.

“We’re thrilled to add Jeff to our bullpen. His pitch selection, strike-throwing ability, and knack for generating strikeouts against all hitters are exceptional and will make our team stronger,” said Ross Atkins, EVP of Baseball Operations & General Manager. “Jeff will have the chance to close games for us this season. His experience, competitive edge, and track record make him a great fit for our group. We’re excited to welcome him and his family—his wife Marissa and children Tytan, Houstyn, Jetsyn, and Lennyn—to Toronto.”

The 6-foot-5 right-hander was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft before being traded to the Colorado Rockies as part of the deal that brought shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto.

A native of Latham, NY, Hoffman has played in 256 career MLB games (50 starts) with the Rockies, Cincinnati Reds, and Phillies, recording a 4.82 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 479 strikeouts in 467 innings.
