Tennessee secured an exciting offensive addition on Tuesday with the announcement that wide receiver Amari Jefferson is transferring to the Vols after spending one year at Alabama.
A Chattanooga native, Jefferson revealed on social media Monday that he will join Tennessee, having not played in any games during his freshman season at Alabama.
Tight end Miles Kitselman also confirmed his return to UT. Jefferson was regarded as a consensus four-star recruit in the Class of 2024 by all major recruiting services. He was a standout player at Baylor School in Chattanooga and was named Tennessee’s D2-AAA Mr. Football. On3 and PrepStar ranked Jefferson as the top prospect in Tennessee for his class, while other outlets listed him among the state’s top five players.
In addition to football, Jefferson was a top baseball recruit, initially committing to play for Tennessee’s baseball team in 2021 before ultimately focusing on football.
“Being from Tennessee and having the opportunity to play for UT is something special,” Jefferson told Sports Illustrated. “With Coach Saban retiring, I felt that my strong relationship with Coach Heupel and Coach Pope during my recruitment was important, and I wanted to see if this could still work out.”
