One of Tennessee football’s biggest recruiting wins came on Friday with Josh Heupel securing one of his top young players, as 5-star freshman wide receiver Mike Matthews decided to stay with the team. But Heupel isn’t stopping there. The Vols are actively pursuing Zachariah Branch, the No. 2 wide receiver in the transfer portal, who recently visited Miami. While he’s expected to make a decision soon, it’s important to note that Zachariah’s brother, Zion Branch, is also in the process of finding a new home, and it looks like they could be a package deal.
Zion, a 4-star safety who originally committed to USC, played a key role in helping Lincoln Riley land Zachariah. Now, both brothers are visiting schools together, and Tennessee is working hard to make a strong impression. Although wide receiver is a more pressing need for the Vols than safety, Heupel would certainly welcome the opportunity to add some help to the defense as well. With strong competition from schools like Miami, Georgia, and Arizona State, Tennessee is putting in the effort to stay in the race for both Branch brothers.
