The Toronto Blue Jays are now in a tight race to acquire standout third baseman Alex Bregman this offseason.
According to Jon Heyman of the *New York Post*, Bregman’s decision will likely come down to either the Blue Jays or the Detroit Tigers. Earlier this week, the Tigers were reported to be heavily pursuing the two-time World Series champion, but the Blue Jays are ramping up their efforts to secure Bregman, potentially closing the door on Detroit’s hopes.
Adding Bregman would be a significant boost to Toronto’s infield, alongside stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base, Bo Bichette at shortstop, and Ernie Clement at third base.
Bregman is coming off a stellar 2024 season, setting the bar for third basemen with 103 putouts, 242 assists, 23 double plays, and a .972 fielding percentage. Offensively, he hit 26 home runs, his highest total since 2019, while batting .260.
Should the Blue Jays land Bregman, they could be on the rise after a 74-88 season, with the two-time All-Star’s 4.1 WAR potentially helping them become more competitive in the crowded American League East.
