Detroit Lions Release Former Pro Bowler From Practice Squad

The Detroit Lions, despite dealing with a slew of injuries, have parted ways with former Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams. On Wednesday, the team released Adams from their practice squad after he appeared in just two games, both of which were starts.

At 29 years old, Adams was once a first-team All-Pro, but this move casts doubt on his future in the NFL. After being traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2020, his career has taken a sharp decline, with injuries playing a significant role in his struggles. Once viewed as a key player for the New York Jets, Adams’ career has faltered in recent years.

In his first three seasons with the Jets, Adams was named to the Pro Bowl twice and recorded 273 tackles, 12 sacks, six forced fumbles, and two interceptions. However, over the last three seasons, he has played in just 15 games.

After limited action with the Tennessee Titans earlier this season, many had hoped Adams could provide a boost for the Lions. With his release, he’ll now hit free agency, where he’ll likely seek an opportunity to continue his NFL career.

The Lions, who are set to face the Vikings in a crucial game that could decide the NFC’s top seed, will be looking to make a strong playoff push. The game will air on January 5 at 8:20 PM ET on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.”
