BREAKING NEWS: Westlife’s Shane backs Sligo boy’s fundraiser in memory of his uncle raising almost €2,000 for cancer charity……

Westlife star Shane Filan has shown his support for a heartfelt local fundraiser led by a young Sligo boy in memory of his late uncle. The touching initiative has already raised nearly €2,000 for the Irish Cancer Society, drawing widespread praise across the community.

The fundraiser was organised by 11-year-old Cian O’Donnell, who lost his uncle Mark to cancer earlier this year. Determined to honour his uncle’s memory, Cian launched a sponsored walk and online campaign, which quickly gained traction. When Shane Filan — also a Sligo native — heard about the effort, he took to social media to share Cian’s story, urging fans to support the cause.

Filan described Cian as “an inspiration” and praised his “incredible heart and determination.” His endorsement helped boost donations significantly within hours.

Speaking about the support, Cian said he was “so happy and proud” and thanked everyone who donated. His mother added that the backing from Shane meant the world to their family.

All proceeds will go directly to the Irish Cancer Society to help fund research and support services for families affected by cancer. Donations are still being accepted via the fundraiser’s offic

ial page.
