**Three Former Blue Jays Make 2025 Hall of Fame Ballot, Joining Two Holdovers**
The 2025 Hall of Fame ballot for Major League Baseball has been released, and it features three former Toronto Blue Jays players—Russell Martin, Troy Tulowitzki, and Curtis Granderson—alongside two returning candidates, Mark Buehrle and Omar Vizquel.
**New Candidates: Martin, Tulowitzki, and Granderson**
Russell Martin, 41, spent four seasons with the Blue Jays from 2015 to 2018, earning four All-Star selections over his 14-year MLB career. A Canadian from East York, Ontario, Martin was known for his defensive skills, winning a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger early in his career. While he made a significant impact in Toronto, helping the Jays reach the ALCS in 2015 and 2016, Martin’s chances of making the Hall of Fame are slim in his first year on the ballot, with a low HOFm score of 54.
Troy Tulowitzki, 40, played parts of four seasons with the Blue Jays after being traded to Toronto in 2015. A five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, Tulowitzki’s career was hampered by injuries, including missing the entire 2018 season. He posted a .290/.361/.495 slash line over 1,291 career games, and while his time in Toronto was relatively brief, he was part of the Jays’ successful 2015 and 2016 ALCS runs. Tulowitzki enters the ballot with an HOFm score of 46.
Curtis Granderson, 43, enjoyed a 16-year MLB career, playing for seven teams, including the Blue Jays in 2018. Known for his power and leadership, Granderson hit .249/.337/.465 with 344 home runs and 153 stolen bases. He won a Silver Slugger and the Roberto Clemente Award during his career. Granderson’s brief stint with the Jays won’t likely elevate him to the Hall in his first year on the ballot, but his career achievements remain impressive.
**Holdovers: Buehrle and Vizquel Return for Another Shot**
Mark Buehrle, 45, returns for his fifth year of eligibility after receiving only 8.3% of the vote last year. The left-handed pitcher spent three seasons with the Blue Jays, finishing with a 40-28 record and a 3.78 ERA. Buehrle, a five-time All-Star and four-time Gold Glove winner, is known for his durability and consistency, with 214 career wins over 16 seasons. Despite his strong career, it’s unclear if he will gain enough votes to reach the Hall.
Omar Vizquel, 57, enters his eighth year on the ballot after receiving 17.7% of the vote in 2024. A 24-season veteran, Vizquel was a defensive wizard at shortstop, winning 11 Gold Gloves over his career. He played his final season in Toronto in 2012 but is better remembered for his time with the Cleveland Indians. Vizquel’s chances for induction are still uncertain, as he has yet to garner the support needed for enshrinement.
The results of the 2025 Hall of Fame vote will be revealed on January 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. ET, live on MLB Network.
