Rangers have shown interest in Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri, but securing a deal for the 21-year-old remains ‘quite difficult,’ according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in an exclusive with GIVEMESPORT.
Romano reveals that Manchester United is only open to a permanent transfer for the Tunisian international this summer as they aim to generate funds for new signings.
While securing a permanent deal is challenging for Rangers at the moment, Hannibal might be available for a lower fee due to his contract expiring in just 11 months.
The talented midfielder, who was praised as “phenomenal” during his loan spell at Birmingham by John Eustace, is expected to leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on August 30. Interest from both Rangers and Celtic has intensified recently.
Romano notes that Manchester United are not considering another loan move for the 21-year-old playmaker, following his six-month loan at Sevilla, where he played only six times and accumulated just 101 minutes of La Liga action.

A permanent transfer is proving ‘quite difficult’
Romano, in an exclusive statement to GMS, indicated that Manchester United are only considering a permanent transfer for Hannibal, who has less than a year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford:
“Yes, there has been interest, but Manchester United is only looking for a permanent move for Hannibal. They are not open to another loan deal. This could be challenging for Rangers at the moment.
“The interest is genuine, but the structure of the deal will be crucial in determining Hannibal’s future.”
With Celtic reportedly preparing an offer for the 21-year-old midfielder, Rangers have also entered the race to sign him this summer.
Mosaique FM reports that Brendan Rodgers’ team is interested in a permanent transfer for the Tunisian player, especially with Matt O’Riley’s future up in the air due to interest from several Premier League clubs, including Southampton and Leicester City.
Rangers may view Hannibal as a potential replacement for their key playmaker, Todd Cantwell, who has recently requested a transfer just 18 months after joining the club.
Hannibal, who scored his first senior goal for Manchester United last season, has made 13 first-team appearances for the Red Devils since moving from Monaco’s academy in 2019.

Rangers Set Sights on Marco van Ginkel
Former Chelsea Starlet Available on a Free Transfer
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers are interested in signing former Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel on a free transfer.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been keeping an eye on the 31-year-old throughout the summer and may now be poised to bring him to Glasgow following the end of his contract with Vitesse Arnhem.
Van Ginkel, one of José Mourinho’s early signings during his second stint at Chelsea, did not meet the high expectations set for him, which included comparisons to ‘the next Frank Lampard.’
Although he was with Chelsea for eight years, the Dutch midfielder made only four senior appearances before leaving the club in 2021.
