Joan Jordan’s rejection of a move to Rangers highlights the need for Philippe Clement’s side to make a more impactful signing this summer.

According to Estadio Deportivo on August 7, Rangers were one of the clubs interested in Jordan, who has been sidelined by Sevilla this summer. Although Rangers made a loan offer for the Spanish midfielder last month, they couldn’t agree on wage terms [Chris Jack, July 28], and Jordan’s representatives have now denied any discussions with the Gers.

This denial makes it unlikely that a deal for the 30-year-old will be revived and underscores the need for Rangers to secure more significant signings before the window closes.

Despite significant transfer activity at Ibrox, with nine players coming in and nine going out, few of the new arrivals have been major names that would turn heads among Rangers’ rivals. The focus on younger players, with six signed at 22 or younger, has shown promise, with 20-year-old Brazilian Jefte impressing against Dynamo Kyiv.

However, only Connor Barron has started in both of Rangers’ opening matches this season, indicating that additional high-profile signings are needed to strengthen the squad.

Philippe Clement has acknowledged that his team is currently weaker than last season, although the additions of Robin Propper and Vaclav Cerny, aged 30 and 26 respectively, should help. Propper is expected to become a key player, and Cerny’s precise cross led to Cyriel Dessers’ late goal against Dynamo.

To compete with Celtic by the end of the season, Rangers need to make further significant additions before August 30. With players like Kenny McLean heavily linked, it’s crucial for Clement to ensure that the final touches to the squad meet the highest standards.
