A second restaurant in Scarborough, owned by the same group of individuals, has been deliberately set on fire, raising concerns about targeted attacks in the community. The incident, which occurred late Sunday night, is currently under investigation by Toronto police and fire officials.
According to authorities, emergency services responded to the blaze at around 11:45 p.m. at a popular dining spot near Kingston Road. Fire crews managed to contain the fire before it spread to nearby buildings, but significant damage was done to the interior of the restaurant. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
This marks the second time a restaurant owned by the same proprietors has been targeted in recent months. The first incident occurred just over a month ago, when another Scarborough restaurant operated by the same team was also set ablaze under suspicious circumstances. Both cases are now being investigated as arson.
A lawyer representing the owners confirmed the link between the two businesses and said his clients are devastated. “They’ve invested years into these establishments and are now living in fear. This doesn’t seem random — it feels personal,” he told reporters outside the damaged restaurant.
Local residents and fellow business owners are expressing concern over the escalating incidents. “It’s frightening,” said one nearby store owner. “We all work hard to build something here. If this is targeted, then who’s next?” Community leaders are urging police to increase patrols and provide updates to the public.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and appealing to the public for any information. “We’re treating this very seriously,” said a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service. “Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area is urged to come forward.”
