Canucks Lock In Future Star! Tom Willander Signs 3-Year Deal Starting 2025
The Vancouver Canucks are building for the future—and they’re doing it in a big way.
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the team has officially signed top defensive prospect Tom Willander to a three-year, entry-level contract set to kick off in the 2025–26 NHL season. The move signals the organization’s continued commitment to strengthening its blue line with young, elite talent.
Willander, the Canucks’ first-round pick (11th overall) in the 2023 NHL Draft, has been turning heads with his standout two-way play and mature decision-making. After a strong development stint, including time with Boston University in the NCAA, the Swedish blueliner is now poised to take the next step in his career—and the Canucks are betting big on his potential.
“Tom has shown tremendous growth and maturity in his game,” Allvin said. “We believe he has all the tools to become a key part of our defense corps in the near future.”
The 6’1″, right-shot defenceman is known for his elite skating, hockey IQ, and ability to contribute at both ends of the ice. With the contract now in place, fans can look forward to seeing Willander don the Canucks jersey and bring his game to the NHL level.
The countdown to 2025 just got a lot more exciting in Vancouver.
