Addison Barger, who is working to secure a spot with the Toronto Blue Jays, received positive news on Sunday night when X-rays on his hand came back negative. According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, Barger is now listed as day-to-day.
“Addison is good,” said John Schneider, “but he’s a little swollen and has a small blood blister after being hit on the hand by Garrett Crochet yesterday. He’s going to try to hit today and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. Day-to-day.”
Addison Barger, who is competing for a role with the Toronto Blue Jays, received good news on Sunday when the X-rays on his hand came back negative after he was hit by a pitch from Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox. Barger is now listed as day-to-day, according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.
“Addison is good,” said manager John Schneider, “but he’s a little swollen and has a small blood blister after being hit on the hand yesterday. He’s going to try to hit today and we’ll see how he feels tomorrow. Day-to-day.”
The 25-year-old Barger made his MLB debut for the Jays last season, hitting .197 in 69 games with seven home runs and 28 RBIs. He will likely compete for time at third base with Gold Glove finalist Ernie Clement and former top prospect Orelvis Martinez. If he doesn’t secure the starting third base spot, Barger could serve as an outfield option and utility player.
The Blue Jays are coming off a tough 74-88 season, finishing last in the AL East, but they are optimistic about the upcoming season. The team added power to their lineup by signing Anthony Santander, who hit 44 home runs with the Baltimore Orioles last season. The Jays also strengthened their bullpen by re-signing Yimi Garcia and signing Jeff Hoffman to a three-year deal. Additionally, they traded for Cleveland Guardians star defender Andres Gimenez and signed future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer to bolster their rotation.
