Kevin Kiermaier, known as “The Outlaw,” is officially returning to the Toronto Blue Jays in a coaching capacity. According to MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson, the retired outfielder will serve as a special assistant for the team.

“I’m just thrilled,” said Kiermaier. “This is the dream job of a lifetime. I can’t wait.” He also described his new role as a “special assistant … slash outfield specialist … slash outfield whisperer.”

Kiermaier, 34, played for the Blue Jays in 2023-24 and earned a Gold Glove in center field during the 2023 season. Before that, he won three Gold Gloves with the Tampa Bay Rays from 2013-22, including a Platinum Glove Award in 2015 as the top defender in the American League. Last season, Kiermaier wrapped up his 12-year MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, earning a World Series ring.

A career .246 hitter, Kiermaier was renowned for his defensive skills, particularly his web gems in center field. Now, as a coach, he’s poised to bring invaluable expertise to the Blue Jays.
