Tennessee’s Lady Vols: A Legacy of Unmatched Dominance in March Madness, Redefining Excellence for Decades

Seven teams from Tennessee are competing for March Madness glory this year, but one stands out historically in the tournament.

The big picture: The Lady Vols are among the most dominant programs in college basketball history. Led by legendary coach Pat Summitt, they’ve reached the Final Four 18 times and secured eight national titles.
Fun fact: The only other women’s team from Tennessee to reach the Final Four is Vanderbilt, which did so in 1993.

Yes, but: The Lady Vols haven’t made it to the Final Four since 2008, and they are hoping to reset this month after an up-and-down season.

The other side: Tennessee’s men’s teams have a less impressive tournament history, having advanced to the Final Four only three times.

The Volunteers are hoping to make their first-ever appearance in the men’s Final Four this year.
What’s next: The men’s tournament started Thursday, and the women’s tournament begins Friday.

Support the Lady Vols against South Florida at 7 pm Central Friday on ESPN.
