Giants Poised To Steal $600 Million Superstar From Blue Jays, Mets, More

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Set for Free Agency, Linked to Giants as Potential Destination

Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is poised to hit free agency at the end of the season after failing to reach a contract extension with the team this winter.

With Guerrero set to hit the open market, several teams are expected to pursue him, with offers potentially reaching into the hundreds of millions. Some projections have even speculated deals approaching $600 million for the 26-year-old slugger.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently identified the San Francisco Giants as a possible landing spot for Guerrero.

“Although the Giants’ best prospect is first baseman Bryce Eldridge, most scouts believe he could be adequate in left field, which makes San Francisco a more realistic landing spot for Guerrero in theory,” Bowden wrote. “New president of baseball operations Buster Posey doesn’t like to give opt-outs in contracts, but for the right contract, Guerrero might agree to a deal without them.”

The Giants have already made moves this offseason, including acquiring shortstop Willy Adames. They were also in serious contention for Corbin Burnes before he ultimately signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

San Francisco has the financial flexibility, competitive drive, and aggressive front office to make a strong push for Guerrero. However, they will face stiff competition from several big-market teams.

The New York Mets and Blue Jays are expected to be among the most aggressive suitors, while the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox could also enter the mix.

With a highly competitive market, the Giants have an opportunity to make a bold move that could help them close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.
