The 2024-2025 MLB offseason has been eventful, with several teams making significant moves to bolster their rosters. Here’s a breakdown of the notable winners and losers:

Winners:

  1. Los Angeles Dodgers: Fresh off their 2024 World Series win, the Dodgers have been aggressive in the offseason. They’ve bolstered their pitching rotation by signing Blake Snell to a five-year, $182 million deal and acquiring Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki. Additionally, they’ve strengthened their bullpen with the addition of Tanner Scott on a four-year, $72 million contract and re-signed outfielder Teoscar Hernández to a three-year, $66 million deal.

  2. New York Mets: The Mets made headlines by signing Juan Soto to a record-breaking $765 million contract, prying him away from their cross-town rivals. This move significantly enhances their lineup and positions them as strong contenders in the upcoming season.

  3. Chicago Cubs: The Cubs bolstered their offense by acquiring outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros, aiming to improve upon their previous season’s performance.

Losers:

  1. St. Louis Cardinals: The Cardinals had a quiet offseason, making minimal moves to strengthen their roster. Given their 83-79 record in 2024, the lack of significant acquisitions could hinder their competitiveness in the upcoming season.

  2. Milwaukee Brewers: Similar to the Cardinals, the Brewers were relatively inactive during the offseason. With other teams in the division making impactful moves, Milwaukee’s inactivity might put them at a disadvantage.

  3. San Diego Padres: Despite having a talented roster, the Padres failed to make significant additions during the offseason. This lack of activity could impact their competitiveness in a challenging division.

As the season approaches, it will be interesting to see how these offseason moves influence team performances and the overall league dynamics.
