Kwon Alexander has agreed to join the Detroit Lions to strengthen their depleted linebacking unit.

The 30-year-old inside linebacker was on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad after starting two games and playing in another as a reserve this season.

Detroit’s linebacker corps is in dire need of help following a knee injury to Malcolm Rodriguez, which coach Dan Campbell feared could be serious during Thursday’s victory over Chicago. Rodriguez had been stepping in for Alex Anzalone, who is on injured reserve with a broken arm and will be out for at least another month. Veterans Derrick Barnes and Jalen Reeves-Maybin are also sidelined with injuries.

The NFC-leading Lions (11-1) will host Green Bay (9-3) on Thursday night, and Alexander may need to make his debut against the Packers.

Alexander brings significant experience, having played with teams like New Orleans in 2020 when Campbell was an assistant coach with the Saints.

With 90 starts in 107 games across stints with Tampa Bay, New Orleans, San Francisco, the New York Jets, Pittsburgh, and Denver, Alexander has accumulated 448 career tackles, 13.5 sacks, and forced one fumble this season with the Broncos.
