As the primary driver representative in the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, George Russell will play a key role in any future discussions about driver language. After the Singapore GP, Chairman Alex Wurz confirmed that these discussions would happen privately as the drivers consider their next steps.
“How many lifetime community services would Guenther Steiner have to do for using the F-word?” Wurz questioned in an interview with Formel1.de. “He was praised for using it.
“Netflix broadcasts it globally without issue. But now to suddenly change things? That choice of language isn’t my personal style as a driver.
“As GPDA chairman, I must officially say that we will discuss it internally, reach a consensus, and then decide if and how we’ll talk to the FIA and its president.”
Russell isn’t the only Mercedes driver supporting Verstappen. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, commented: “Honestly, I think it’s a bit of a joke. This is the top of the sport, mistakes happen. I wouldn’t do the community service, and I hope Max doesn’t either.”
