Roster cuts have started for the Chicago Bears as the team works to trim down to a 53-man roster by Tuesday.
The process began with several injury designations and the release of a veteran tight end.
Ian Wheeler and Nsimba Webster were placed on injured reserve after both sustained injuries in Thursday’s preseason finale. Wheeler, who was competing for a spot as a running back, suffered an ACL injury.
Doug Coleman III was waived with an injury designation, while Illinois product Keith Randolph was outright waived by the Bears.
The team also terminated the contract of tight end Tommy Sweeney.
As the Bears continue to finalize their roster, more moves are expected in the coming days. Keep an eye on offensive playmaker Velus Jones Jr. and defensive back Reddy Stewart as the cutdown deadline nears.
