Rangers are targeting a more ambitious transfer market than ever before as Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen work on a major squad overhaul.

The manager has faced a challenging pre-season, with mixed performances, disappointing results, and ongoing issues with the Ibrox redevelopment contributing to the difficulties.

Recent developments, however, have lifted spirits. Rangers have made an improved loan offer for Joan Jordan, and reports suggest that Vaclav Cerny is set to move to Glasgow to join the club.

Rangers eye midfield enforcer in Man Utd’s Hannibal

Adding to the speculation and positive news, Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri is also a target for Rangers, with negotiations reportedly at an “advanced stage.” According to Walid El Mechri of Africa Foot, the 21-year-old Tunisia international is a high priority for Philippe Clement:

“The Glasgow Rangers club has expressed interest in loaning Hannibal, especially after his impressive performance in the friendly against Manchester United last Saturday. Philippe Clément has made him a key target for this transfer window, and negotiations are progressing well.”

Despite not fully breaking through at Old Trafford, Hannibal has already earned 27 caps for Tunisia and demonstrated his physical dominance and versatility in midfield. During his loan at Birmingham City and in brief appearances for Manchester United, he set records for running distances, which left former Blues manager John Eustace amazed by his stamina.

Hannibal: The Midfield Dynamo Rangers Need

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hannibal highlighted his dedication to improving his physical game:

“Since I’ve been in the Championship, I’ve realized the importance of working on my physical capabilities. It’s making me a better player. Every detail matters, and you need to work harder. Even if you think you’re the best at something, there’s always someone better. That’s why hard work is crucial. Even if others are more physical, it drives me to be more aggressive to win the ball and then showcase my technical skills.”

Philippe Clement is keen on having players who are aggressive and capable of covering more ground in pressing opposition players. Hannibal would be a strategic addition, especially given that he has only a year left on his Manchester United contract, likely to be extended before any potential loan move.

Signing players on loan is an effective strategy for Rangers to bring in quality they might not otherwise afford. A midfield pairing of Joan Jordan and Hannibal, alongside Connor Barron and Mohamed Diomande, would strengthen the squad significantly.
