Patience is a key theme for Rangers boss Philippe Clement as he discusses the new arrivals at Ibrox this summer.

Clement has emphasized that Rangers fans will need to be patient before seeing some of the new signings play regularly in the team.

While Connor Barron and left-back Jefte Vital are expected to slot straight into the starting XI, Hamza Igamane and 19-year-old Clinton Nsiala will not be immediate starters. Igamane, new to European football, and Nsiala, who has yet to make a senior appearance, will need more time to adjust.

Clement explained, “We have some players who are longer-term projects, like Clinton Nsiala. He has a lot of talent, but he needs experience and development. I don’t expect him to be a starting player right away. The same applies to Hamza Igamane. He’s not ready to start; he’s new to this level and needs time to build up physically after a holiday. We have other players, like Connor Barron and Jefte, who are likely to integrate more quickly.”

After showing interest in a few more experienced left-sided center-backs, Rangers are now placing their trust in the young French defender. They will be hoping their investment in the promising teenager pays off.

Initially, Clement’s team had considered Jose Cordoba, but Norwich City secured his signing. There was also interest in Thomas Galdames, the versatile Chilean currently with Godoy Cruz in Argentina, but it seems that move is unlikely now.

Earlier in the summer, Galdames seemed destined for either Scotland or Belgium. However, a transfer to Russia now appears imminent. Chilean outlet En Cancha reports that Galdames is set to sign a three-year contract with Krylia Sovetov. This move, which follows Krylia Sovetov’s ninth-place finish in the Russian Premier League last season, marks a surprising but significant shift for Galdames, who has shown his capability both as a left-back and a center-back.

Leonardo Rodriguez, a representative for Galdames, has confirmed that the defender will be joining Krylia Sovetov rather than Ibrox.

“Thomas is indeed moving to Krylia,” Rodriguez tells Sport24.

At this point, it’s unclear exactly how much Krylia will pay for Godoy Cruz, though Red Gol suggests Galdames is valued around £2 million.

Nsiala is anticipated to play a significant role in the coming years on the blue side of the Old Firm rivalry.

Clement might be cautious about giving him immediate responsibilities, but it’s worth noting that Calvin Bassey, who also joined Rangers under similar conditions, eventually earned the club nearly £20 million in profit.

“Nsiala is a center-back with a strong, modern profile,” former Rangers player and Milan coach Marco Negri tells the Daily Record.

“He’s very aggressive, has a good left foot, and is comfortable with the ball. However, he’s quite young and has only played Under-19 football, which is quite different from first-team play.”

“I’m confident he can be a valuable addition. As a defender, Clinton is very aggressive and strong in one-on-one situations. Although he’s not very tall, he is effective in aerial duels. He has some promising qualities.

“The hope at Ibrox is that Clinton will follow a similar path to Bassey,” Negri adds. “Rangers are looking for players they can buy cheaply, develop, and then sell for a profit. If a larger club offers a substantial amount, Rangers can reinvest that money into acquiring another player.

“So, acquiring a player like Clinton for free is a worthwhile risk.

“Everyone in Italy recognizes his potential. The Milan board was disappointed he didn’t sign a new contract. Rangers are focusing on the future, and he definitely fits into that vision.”
