It’s been a slow transfer window for almost every club this summer, not just Rangers.
In fact, Rangers have already completed six deals, which is above average as this season’s transfer window nears its peak.
With the Copa America and Euro 2024 limiting negotiations, transfer activity has only recently begun to accelerate. Additionally, with the Saudi Arabian transfer window opening last week, significant financial movement is now occurring across football.
As one of the most drawn-out transfer deals of the window wraps up, Rangers fans might be reflecting on what could have been as Borussia Dortmund signs a new number nine.
Dortmund sign Guirassy
Serhou Guirassy was one of the most sought-after players in Europe this summer following a standout season with VfB Stuttgart in Germany.
The Guinean striker, 28, scored 30 goals for Stuttgart, attracting interest from clubs across the Bundesliga, Premier League, and La Liga.
Despite some concerns over issues with the striker’s medical, the Guardian reports that Borussia Dortmund will pay close to £15 million for Guirassy after activating his release clause.
Rangers fans might reflect on how things could have turned out differently if the club’s interest in Serhou Guirassy had materialized during the January transfer window of 2020.
Rangers once tailed Guinean hitman
Rangers fans might recall that Serhou Guirassy was once linked with the club during Steven Gerrard’s management.
At that time, Guirassy was playing for Amiens in France, and Courier Picard reported that Rangers were interested in a deal. It was suggested that Rangers had scouted the striker extensively and were competing with Premier League side Brighton for his signature.
However, six months later, Guirassy moved to Ligue 1 side Rennes in a £15 million deal, and Rangers’ interest in him faded.
After two years with Stuttgart, Guirassy appears to be entering his prime, and Rangers fans may now be left wondering ‘what if’ as the French-born striker signs with Dortmund.
