Rangers fans have endured a tumultuous transfer window so far, marked by manager Philippe Clement’s recent comments hinting at discrepancies in transfer expectations with the Ibrox board. This tension is compounded by the departure of eight senior players over the past year, all leaving on free transfers without any incoming funds to bolster the squad.

The predicament of needing to sell before making new acquisitions has added to supporters’ frustration, especially with crucial Champions League qualifiers on the horizon. Despite these challenges, Rangers are intensifying their efforts to strengthen the squad, focusing on a player previously targeted by Arsenal. Notably, this player boasts a £55 million release clause, underscoring his high technical ability and the club’s ambitions in the transfer market.

Rangers target Sevilla star Jordan

Rangers fans have been eagerly awaiting developments in the transfer market, and recent reports linking the club to Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan have sparked considerable interest. The 30-year-old Spaniard is known for his technical prowess and has enjoyed success at the highest levels of European football, including winning two Europa League titles and participating in the Champions League during his five-year stint at Sevilla.

Speculation about Jordan’s future intensified when Sevilla’s sporting director, Victor Orta, suggested that the midfielder’s time at the club may be coming to an end. This notion was further fueled by Sevilla omitting Jordan from their squad for the first pre-season friendly, alongside their moves to bring in new midfielders like Sambi Lokonga and Saul Niguez this transfer window.

According to prominent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rangers initially approached Sevilla with a loan offer for Jordan, but it was rebuffed due to Sevilla’s demand that Rangers cover 100% of Jordan’s £70,000 per week wages. Subsequent reports have indicated that Sevilla may be willing to accept covering 50% (£35,000 per week) of Jordan’s wages, prompting Rangers to prepare a second offer.

However, Rangers face competition for Jordan’s signature, with clubs in Greece reportedly also interested in the midfielder. As negotiations continue, Rangers are navigating a competitive landscape to secure Jordan’s services for the upcoming season.

Spanish midfielder wanted by Arsenal

The recent speculation linking Rangers to Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan has certainly piqued the interest of Rangers fans, prompting many to delve into his playing history through platforms like YouTube and Google. Interestingly, Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta reportedly showed interest in Jordan back in January 2021, when the midfielder possessed a hefty £55 million release clause in his contract.

Despite the reported interest from Arsenal, a move never materialized. However, Sevilla’s valuation of Jordan and the attention from Arsenal underscored the midfielder’s talent and potential. While Jordan may now find himself potentially surplus to requirements at Sevilla, who finished mid-table in La Liga last season, his stature as a 6-foot midfielder with a strong technical profile remains impressive.

For Rangers, securing a deal for Jordan would not only bolster their squad but also serve as a significant statement of intent ahead of multiple competitions in the upcoming season. The key question remains whether Sevilla is eager to offload Jordan and whether the midfielder can prove himself in Glasgow should the move materialize.
