Swindon Town Trial Hibernian Goalkeeper Max Boruc Ahead of Potential Summer Move

Swindon Town has taken Hibernian goalkeeper Max Boruc on trial, with the possibility of a permanent move to the League Two side this summer. The Polish shot-stopper recently featured in a pre-season friendly for Swindon Town against Hungerford Town, helping Mark Kennedy’s team secure a 2-0 victory.

Hibernian is reportedly looking to trim their squad ahead of the upcoming Scottish Premiership season. Despite being under contract at Easter Road, Boruc has been allowed to train with Swindon Town, potentially paving the way for a transfer.

Boruc’s Performance Last Season

Max Boruc started last season with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership before moving on loan to Arbroath in the Scottish Championship for the latter half of the 2023/24 season. Throughout the season, Boruc made 17 appearances across all competitions, keeping just one clean sheet. Notably, he played in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers, contributing to a 6-1 victory against IC D’Escaldes in August.

With one year remaining on his contract at Hibernian, journalist Scott Burns confirmed via the Daily Record that the 21-year-old is currently training with Swindon Town.

Potential Benefits of the Move to Swindon Town

Boruc has struggled to secure regular first-team football at Hibernian, leading to his loan spell last season to gain more playing time. Swindon Town, on the other hand, has only one first-team goalkeeper listed on their club website, Jack Bycroft. This scenario could provide Boruc with a significant opportunity to earn regular first-team minutes if he signs with Swindon.

A move to Swindon Town could offer Boruc a fresh start in a new country, boosting his morale and providing a platform to showcase his skills. Additionally, Swindon Town conceded 83 league goals last season, 28 more than the previous campaign, nearly pulling the club into a relegation battle. Strengthening their goalkeeping options is likely a priority for the club.

While it remains uncertain whether Boruc would become the number one goalkeeper at Swindon Town or provide competition for Bycroft, the move could be mutually beneficial. Boruc would have the chance to secure more playing time and Swindon Town would bolster their squad with a promising young goalkeeper.
