Simon Murray Makes Sensational Return to Dundee in Major Transfer Move
In one of the most noteworthy moves of the Scottish summer transfer window, Ross County striker Simon Murray has made a triumphant return to his boyhood club, Dundee. The 32-year-old, who netted 23 goals for Ross County last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Dark Blues for an undisclosed fee. Dundee confirmed that they faced competition from several clubs to secure Murray, including a potential return to Hibernian.
Murray, who previously played for Dundee as a boy and during a loan spell in 2018, expressed his excitement about the move: “It’s amazing. It’s taken a while and it’s something I’ve just wanted to get done and to now be here permanently feels amazing. It’s good to be back. After speaking with the manager it just feels right for me. My family are based in Dundee, I grew up here, I grew up watching the club and the club are going places and I wanted to be part of that. I just felt at this time in my career with family and the way the club is I felt it was the right time to come back. This is the club I support and to live that dream is amazing and I can’t wait to get started.”
Ross County manager Don Cowie acknowledged the loss, stating, “Simon has been a brilliant asset for our football club since arriving from Queen’s Park. His goal return last season was a big contributing factor in us retaining our Premiership status. Simon has a young family whom he needs to be closer to at this time and once our valuation was met, we could not stand in his way of this. We wish Simon and his family the very best of luck for the future.”
Ross County CEO Steven Ferguson also commented on the transfer, “It has been well documented the interest in Simon and the need for Simon to return South to be closer to his family. Dundee FC met our valuation and after trying everything we could to keep Simon, we have reluctantly accepted this offer. I echo Don’s comments and on behalf of all at Ross County FC, would like to put on record our thanks to Simon for his time at Ross County FC and wish him and his family all the very best in the future.”
This move marks a significant moment for Dundee, as they bring back a talented forward who has a deep connection to the club and the community. Fans are eagerly anticipating Murray’s contributions on the pitch as he embarks on this new chapter in his career.
