On Saturday, the Minnesota Wild signed defenseman Declan Chisholm to a one-year contract extension worth $1 million for the 2024-25 season, as reported by Michael Russo of the Athletic.

Chisholm, a restricted free agent after the expiration of his previous $775,000 contract at the end of the 2023-24 season, split last season between two NHL teams. He started with the Winnipeg Jets, contributing one assist in two games before being claimed off waivers by Minnesota on January 29, 2024. With the Wild, the 24-year-old played in 29 games, totaling eight points (three goals, five assists), along with 18 penalty minutes and a minus-8 rating. His average ice time of 16:52 per game marked a career high. Chisholm has accumulated nine points (three goals, six assists) in 33 NHL games to date.

In his professional career, Chisholm has predominantly played in the American Hockey League (AHL), notably with the Manitoba Moose, Winnipeg’s affiliate. Over 146 AHL games, he recorded 91 points (16 goals, 75 assists) with a minus-9 rating. He also contributed 11 points (two goals, nine assists) and a plus-2 rating in 10 Calder Cup Playoff games. His most productive AHL season was in 2022-23, where he amassed a career-best 43 points (five goals, 38 assists) in 59 games with the Moose.

Before turning professional, Chisholm showcased his talents as a defenseman for the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Across four seasons from 2016 to 2020, he compiled 142 points (22 goals, 120 assists) in 214 games. His final junior season in 2019-20 saw him serve as an alternate captain, contributing 69 points (13 goals, 56 assists) in 59 games.
