After the Detroit Lions’ 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on December 15, there was speculation that their season might be over, especially given the number of injuries plaguing the team. However, quarterback Jared Goff remained confident in his team’s outlook. When asked about keeping things in perspective after the loss, Goff gave a clear four-word response: “We’ll be just fine.” During a postgame press conference, he added that while he expected a lot of negative coverage, internally, the Lions were confident and staying focused.
Goff also reflected on the team’s strong run prior to the loss, noting, “It sucks to lose” after having won so many games in a row. He acknowledged the desire to win every game, including the Super Bowl, but expressed hope that the defeat would serve as a valuable learning experience. Goff added, “I hope we can look back on this one as a good learning lesson for us and use some of the things we learned in this game to help us win the next three before the playoffs.”
Goff also suggested that the loss could ultimately help the Lions if they “handle it the right way.” He emphasized that by recognizing their weaknesses and improving, the defeat could prove to be a valuable learning experience for the team. He expressed confidence that the loss would bring added urgency, stating, “There will be a ton of urgency from our guys, not that there wasn’t today, but there will be now for sure,” especially with both Minnesota and Philadelphia closely trailing them.
Jameson Williams also weighed in, dismissing the external negativity. Speaking to the media on December 19, he said, “I really don’t see the noise.” Williams emphasized that the team’s focus remains solely on bouncing back and preparing for their upcoming game against Chicago. He added, “I’m pretty sure nobody in the locker room is worried about what people are saying or even seeing it because we are just so focused right now.”
Williams also reflected on the challenges of maintaining an undefeated record, saying, “I’m pretty sure at the beginning of the season, everybody’s got a goal. If you can make it through a season without losing a game, that would be big, but it’s hard to win a game even though some teams do it a lot.” He emphasized the difficulty of winning in the NFL, noting, “It’s hard to win NFL games no matter what team is in front of you (or) what coach is on the other sideline.” With that in mind, Williams added that the Lions’ focus is on bouncing back and getting back on track toward victory.
