Gray Prepares for Home Opener of New Season

Hibs manager David Gray has commended Elie Youan for focusing on his fitness amidst speculation about his future. He also mentioned that a fan favorite will need a scan before being cleared to play.

Queen’s Park will face Hibs at Easter Road tomorrow night in the Premier Sports Cup. The home team aims to build on their recent 5-0 victory over Elgin City at Borough Briggs. This game marks Gray’s first home match since officially taking over from Nick Montgomery, offering the new head coach an opportunity to create early-season excitement.

After today’s training session, Gray addressed fitness issues concerning Chris Cadden, Harry McKirdy, and Jake Doyle-Hayes. He also noted that Youan is still under observation after recovering from an illness that sidelined him for the season opener.

Youan has attracted interest from multiple clubs over the summer, with Hibs reportedly seeking over £2.5 million for him. The French winger, who participated in the team’s pre-season camp in the Netherlands, returned to training this morning.

Gray emphasized that the 25-year-old remains focused despite the transfer rumors: “Elie has been fine. There’s been a lot of noise, but he’s contracted to Hibs, and his job is to perform to the best of his ability. He understands the importance of playing for a club like this, and we’re all working together.”

“Elie trained this morning after his illness. We’ll need to monitor his progress, as he pushed himself hard today for the first time,” Gray added.

Providing a more detailed injury update ahead of the first home game, Gray said: “Chris Cadden is going for a scan, so we’re waiting for the results. He came off in the first half against Elgin due to quad tightness, so we’re managing that.”

“Harry McKirdy is very close but not quite ready yet. His training load has increased significantly, which is encouraging. Jake Doyle-Hayes is improving steadily, and he trained this morning. We’re carefully managing his progress to push forward.”
