The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to be active this offseason following their disappointing 74-88 finish and last-place finish in the American League East in 2024. With a focus on contending in 2025 rather than rebuilding, they’re eyeing key additions in free agency. The team has already been connected to high-profile names like Max Fried and Juan Soto, before Soto ultimately signed with the New York Mets.

According to R.J. Anderson of CBS Sports, veteran infielder Ha-Seong Kim could be a target for the Blue Jays this winter. Kim, widely regarded as the top defensive infielder on the market, is recovering from shoulder surgery that will keep him out for part of the 2025 season. While this may affect his contract and raise questions about the risk of his recovery, Anderson notes that Kim’s elite speed and defense—along with a Gold Glove—could still make him an attractive option.

Kim’s 2024 season was a step back from his strong 2023 campaign. He posted a .233/.330/.370 slash line, with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs. However, he still managed 22 stolen bases and is expected to command a four-year, $50 million deal, according to Spotrac. If Kim can bounce back to his 2023 form, the Blue Jays could benefit greatly from his presence.

Signing Kim could also provide the team with a strong building block in case they’re unable to retain stars like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette after 2025. It will be intriguing to see if the Blue Jays make a move for Kim at the Winter Meetings.
