As injuries continue to pile up, new players are stepping in, and the Detroit Lions’ defense remains effective, defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s prospects as a head coach continue to improve. Glenn is slated for several head coaching interviews in the upcoming hiring cycle, and it’s likely he’ll be selective in his decision, given how well things are going in Detroit.
Glenn’s past connections may influence his choice of job openings, as is typical for most candidates. Two teams where Glenn has significant history—the New Orleans Saints and New York Jets—are expected to show interest in hiring him as their next head coach.
Does Aaron Glenn still view a certain position as his “dream job”? On the latest edition of *Flight Deck with Rich Cimini*, ESPN New York Jets beat reporter Rich Cimini discussed potential head coaching candidates for the Jets, and Glenn was a key name mentioned. Cimini highlighted that Glenn had interviewed for the Jets’ head coaching position back in 2021, before Robert Saleh was hired, and shared an interesting tidbit from a conversation he’d had with Glenn two years ago.
“I’ve known Aaron a long time,” Cimini said. “I remember talking to him, I think it was about two years ago, and he said it would be a dream to coach the Jets. That was two years ago, I don’t know if that’s changed, but I think he’d be very interested in the position.”
Cimini also had former Jets’ safety Victor Green—Glenn’s teammate for eight seasons (1994-2001)—on the show, and Green strongly endorsed Glenn as the next Jets’ head coach, echoing his Twitter support when the Jets announced their search for a new general manager and head coach.
With the Jets hiring The 33rd Team, led by former GM Mike Tannenbaum, to assist in their leadership search, Glenn is likely to be a primary candidate. Tannenbaum, who previously hired Glenn as a scout for the Jets, has spoken highly of him in recent months.
While Cimini acknowledged that the Jets may no longer be Glenn’s “dream job” after two years, his past comments provide an intriguing perspective as Glenn emerges as a top head coaching candidate.
