The Toronto Blue Jays are poised to make significant changes after a disappointing 74-win season in 2024 that left them at the bottom of the American League East. While they have talent, they need more to compete at the highest level.
The top target remains New York Yankees star Juan Soto, with Toronto clearly making a strong push for him. However, if Soto chooses a different destination, the Blue Jays shouldn’t hesitate to explore other big-name players.
One intriguing possibility is St. Louis Cardinals star Nolan Arenado, who is expected to be traded, according to New York Post’s Jon Heyman. Arenado, an eight-time All-Star, is under contract for three more years, and his potential availability has sparked considerable interest. The Blue Jays are among the teams that could be a fit, alongside others like the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Mariners.
An infield featuring Arenado alongside Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could be a game-changer for Toronto. While the pursuit of Soto should remain a priority, Arenado would be a solid backup plan for the Blue Jays as they look to reload and reassert themselves in the AL East.
