Former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who will turn 37 in February, has been the subject of retirement rumors and speculation about his future with the Los Angeles Rams. However, a surprising new prediction has emerged, suggesting that Stafford may end up with a rival NFC team, and it’s not the one many expected earlier in the season.

While some have speculated about a potential move to the Minnesota Vikings, a Bleacher Report article from November 27 presents a different possibility. NFL analyst Brad Gagnon predicts Stafford will land with the Seattle Seahawks, much like New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr, as a free agent or trade candidate this offseason.

Gagnon notes that Stafford, despite being 36, has not seen a significant drop in productivity and even led the Rams to a Super Bowl victory a few years ago. He believes the Seahawks could be an attractive option for Stafford to finish his career with a more competitive team, especially as Seattle looks to upgrade its quarterback position.

Other teams like the Giants, Raiders, and Titans might also show interest if the Rams decide to move on from Stafford. The Los Angeles Rams could save $27 million on their 2025 salary cap if they release Stafford after June 1, which might happen if they feel he is no longer a valuable asset at 37.

If Stafford does join the Seahawks, he would replace current quarterback Geno Smith. While Smith has had a solid season, Seattle could save $25 million by cutting ties with him in the offseason, making it a logical move.

Meanwhile, Stafford is dealing with a lateral ankle sprain, suffered during the Rams’ 21-14 win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. However, Rams head coach Sean McVay has stated that the injury is minor and won’t affect Stafford’s preparation for their upcoming game against the Buffalo Bills. Stafford continued to play through the injury, throwing two touchdowns in the second half of the Saints game.
