Martin Brundle offered high praise for Max Verstappen after the Dutch driver clinched his fourth consecutive Formula 1 drivers’ title. However, he feels it is “too early” to label him the greatest driver in the sport’s history.
Verstappen secured his fourth championship by finishing ahead of rival Lando Norris at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, extending his lead to an unassailable 63 points with two races remaining in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Brundle, writing in his column, highlighted Verstappen’s remarkable skill and intelligence, noting that even though Red Bull’s RB20 car didn’t always perform optimally, Verstappen still guided it to the world championship. He commended the 27-year-old for his consistent excellence throughout his F1 career.
Verstappen displays “clear signs of greatness”
“Max Verstappen has proven himself as a complete package—winning mentality and all. He’s largely dominated his teammates, and even this season, he has been able to win despite not always having the fastest car, a clear indicator of greatness. He’s been crucial to Red Bull’s dominance,” Brundle told Sky Sports.
“He has fearless speed, abundant talent, and a strong mindset to match. If you’re discussing the greatest F1 drivers of all time, Max has to be part of that conversation. You can make your own judgment, but for me, it’s too early to call him the greatest,” Brundle concluded.
