After earning back-to-back All-Star selections in 2022 and 2023, closer Jordan Romano was considered one of the top players at his position. However, injuries disrupted his 2024 season, and now, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Toronto Blue Jays have non-tendered Romano, making him a free agent.
Chad Green filled in admirably for Romano, recording 17 saves in 53 appearances. While Romano had accumulated 36 saves in his previous two full seasons, his 2024 campaign was a struggle. In just 15 games, he pitched 13.2 innings, posting a 6.59 ERA and 1.463 WHIP. His home run rate soared to 2.6 HR/9, and his hit rate spiked to 10.5 H/9 in the limited sample.
