The Toronto Blue Jays are facing a difficult decision regarding the future of prospect Adrian Pinto, as the deadline to add players to the 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 draft approaches. The deadline is Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET, and MLB Pipeline has described Pinto as the toughest decision for the team.

Pinto, acquired from the Rockies in the Randal Grichuk trade in March 2022, has struggled with injuries over the past three years, playing just 102 games and never reaching Double-A. However, he impressed in the Arizona Fall League with some of the best bat-to-ball skills, posting a career line of .296/.419/.444 as a pro, while also showing good speed and defensive flexibility. Pinto even made the AFL All-Star Game and hit a three-run homer in the event, showcasing his potential.

Despite his talent, Pinto isn’t currently ranked among the Blue Jays’ top 30 prospects according to MLB.com. The 22-year-old Venezuelan infielder played 26 games across Rookie ball, Low-A, and High-A this season, hitting .330 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 103 at-bats.

As the Blue Jays aim to bounce back from a disappointing 74-88 season and rebuild their roster, they are expected to be active in the offseason, with rumors linking them to top free agents like Juan Soto and Max Fried, as well as potential trade targets such as Christian Walker or Pete Alonso for first base.
