The Toronto Blue Jays released relief pitcher Emmanuel Ramírez on Friday, according to the team’s official transaction log.

Ramírez had a short stint with the Blue Jays after being claimed off waivers from the Miami Marlins on September 5. Two months later, he was designated for assignment to make room for right-handed pitcher Michael Petersen, who was also claimed off waivers from the Marlins.

Although Ramírez never made it to the Blue Jays’ active roster, he appeared in five games for Triple-A Buffalo.

The 30-year-old is currently playing for Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League.

Ramírez began his professional career with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent in November 2012, but never reached the major leagues with the team. After becoming a free agent at the end of the 2020 season, he spent the 2021 season in the Atlanta Braves’ minor league system. He was added to the New York Yankees’ organization in 2022 but spent the entire year in the minors.

In 2023, Ramírez played in Mexico and the Dominican Republic before signing with the Marlins in January. He made his MLB debut on April 28, 2024.

In 15 appearances with the Marlins this season, Ramírez posted a 0-1 record with a 6.97 ERA, 1.403 WHIP, 9.1 strikeouts per nine innings, and a -0.3 WAR. Over the past three years, he has also pitched in 122 non-MLB games, compiling a 20-10 record with a 3.18 ERA, 1.072 WHIP, and 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings at the lower levels of competition.
