The Toronto Blue Jays are ready to make a bold move this offseason, and this could be their moment to do so.

With the World Series behind us—where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees—both teams showcased their willingness to spend big on superstar talent.

The Blue Jays have a solid roster but could use one more superstar to elevate them to the next level, and free agency might provide that opportunity. Yankees star Juan Soto is expected to become a free agent, and he’s projected to land a staggering $600 million deal.

According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jesse Rogers, who consulted league sources, the Blue Jays are one of seven teams poised to pursue Soto.

“Toronto Blue Jays: Toronto became a buzzworthy contender—perhaps more due to social media speculation than reality—when they pursued Shohei Ohtani last offseason,” McDaniel and Rogers explained. “However, the interest made sense: The Blue Jays’ lineup leans too heavily on right-handed power, ranking 30th, 26th, and 27th in home runs from left-handed hitters over the past three seasons.

“After falling short in their Ohtani pursuit, Toronto stuck with their core this season—which didn’t pay off. The front office still needs that left-handed power bat, and if they retain key players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto should go all-in on Soto.”
