F1 Update: Max Verstappen Faces Grid Penalty, FIA Fines for Cost Cap Violations
Max Verstappen is at risk of receiving a grid penalty for this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, adding another hurdle to his 2024 title ambitions. This follows engine troubles he experienced during the recent Mexican Grand Prix.
Red Bull adviser Helmut Marko confirmed that Verstappen could face a five-place grid drop due to his car being 3-8 kph slower on the straights in Mexico.
In other news, Honda and Alpine have been penalized by the FIA for procedural violations related to the 2023 cost cap for engine manufacturers. The FIA announced last month that both Honda and Alpine, suppliers for Red Bull, were found to have breached regulations. Honda has been fined $600,000, while Alpine faces a $400,000 penalty.
