Breaking News: Maple Leafs Set to Shake Up Roster with Shocking $6 Million Defenseman Trade…..

The Toronto Maple Leafs are prioritizing their defensive play this season and are eyeing a trade to bring in a veteran defenseman.

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, one user suggested a deal that would send Olli Maatta from the Detroit Red Wings to Toronto.

In the proposed trade:

 Maple Leafs receive:
– Olli Maatta (with $1.5 million salary retained)

Red Wings receive:
– David Kampf
– A fifth-round pick in 2025

This deal could provide the Maple Leafs with a solid third-pairing left-shot defenseman in Maatta, who has a wealth of experience as a two-time Stanley Cup champion. Over his career, he has played 691 games, tallying 40 goals and 137 assists for a total of 177 points.

In exchange, the Red Wings would gain Kampf, who could serve as a fourth-line center and shutdown defender. Kampf is currently in the second year of a four-year, $9.6 million contract and has recorded one assist in eight games this season.

In other news, the Maple Leafs recently signed defenseman Jake McCabe to a five-year, $23.5 million extension on October 28. McCabe, who entered the season in the final year of his previous deal, expressed a desire to stay in Toronto, saying, “I love it here,” despite earlier reports indicating that contract negotiations had stalled.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings are off to a shaky 4-4-1 start and lost to the Edmonton Oilers in overtime on October 27. Coach Derek Lalonde acknowledged the team’s inconsistency, stating, “There are a couple losses where our actual performance isn’t awful, but not good enough.” The Red Wings will next face the Winnipeg Jets at home on October 30.
