Maple Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube didn’t hold back after the team’s overtime loss to the Bruins. Frustrated by missed opportunities and a struggling power play, Berube was candid about the need for more direct and assertive play, especially with the talent on the roster.
“We’re not making things simple enough. We’re passing up shots, looking for the perfect play,” Berube stated. “With the firepower we have, there’s no excuse for leaving scoring chances on the table.”
He specifically addressed their approach during the 5-on-3, noting, “You get a golden opportunity like that in a tied game, and we’re moving the puck around without taking shots. At some point, we have to get pucks on net and create pressure.”
Berube also highlighted the importance of mental toughness and making decisive plays, especially when facing a team like Boston. “They’re a well-structured team, and they make you work for every inch,” he said. “Our guys need to match that intensity, take those open shots, and capitalize on the chances we’re getting.”
Berube’s message was clear: the Leafs have to simplify their play, build chemistry on special teams, and start converting scoring chances if they’re to contend against top rivals like the Bruins.
